This little plate can be about 3/4" wide, 3" long, 1/8" thick and the hole at one end. I use the rear tang screw and if needed, drill and tap a new whole in the tang. Some of the TC rifle and some of the Pedersoli's come with a hole already there, but of not, do not panic, it's an easy 5 minute job to drill and tap a 6/32 or 8/32 hole. They are a copy of the Allen & Thurber rifles of the 1850's and 1860's, which were produced in Worcester, Massachusetts. While flint, agate, etc are 7 on Moh's hardness scale, obsidian is only 5. BTW stainless steel is also around 5 on the same scale. A good frizzen may actually be harder than obsidian.
